**UPDATED MORE PICS**NYACK’S HALLOWEEN PARADE HITS HIGH NUMBER OF SPECTACLE LOVERS

BY CAROL MCILMURRAY

Families and gentle spirits came to Nyack’s most fun filled and active halloween parade to date. Small families, friends, and lovers of the absurd filled Nyack’s Broadway and Main Street.

Children tossed footballs and rubber brains as they awaited the start of the march of inventive costumes, high school bands, and highbrow parade floats such as Edward Hooper’s ‘Nighthawks’ a life sized framed moving artwork depicting an empty 1942 American diner with three lonely patrons played by living actors.

Children were unusually device-free as they looked over and approved the cornucopia of tasteful costumes, theatrical grade make-up, and showmanship.  The beautiful evening was filled with pleasant hellos to new neighbors and friends at the show stopping parade. Subwoofer speakers played theme music for each parade float, such as Willy Wonka and Star Wars.

The general mood of the crowd was happy. One of the coorindators of the massive parade (he was dressed as a rollerskating cowboy) said the only thing he would recommend for next year is a lot more candy to throw into the air. The group of spectators was well into the thousands. Orangetown police and auxiliary police members helped parade control any issue with the 20,ooo person crowd.

Doublebubble chewing gum and other candies were flung out of the hands of parade participants to eager children, adults, and other halloween ready crowd members.

“My favorite costume was the guy on stilts with a women in a martini glass! I also liked all the children dressing up like video game characters, you can tell virtual reality is really here in these kids,” said Berta Reece, a grandmother of a little teddybear,  penguin, and black belt ninja.
