UPDATED: Mario Cuomo/ TZ Bridge can’t handle snow storm; officially closed today for hours; Cuomo helps stranded motorist

A multi-car pile-up on Mario Cuomo/TZ Bridge connecting Westchester and Rockland officially closed northbound traffic on the new Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge due to safety issues in the unsually humid and icy storm.

Police confirmed property damage and injuries in the crash, just after 9:30AM on the Hudson Valley span. A bystander stuck in traffic reported there was up to 8 cars involved in the pile up. Reports have confirmed six cars involved in traffic accident on the new Tappan Zee Bridge. New reports say cops confirmed 25 cars involved in two-way traffic chain.

Police did not official release the number of cars involved or expected time of new multi-billion dollar bridge’s reopening. They said the snowy weather was likely a contributing factor.

Commuters driving over Hudson River can use the Bear Mountain Bridge or George Washington Bridge.

The temperature was still below freezing with an 85 percent humidity around 10 AM.

Traffic resumed Northbound ON T.Z./ M. Cuomo Bridge with slowed traffic for one lane.

As of 3:20PM, approx. 2 inches of sleet/snow mix are melting due to rising temperatures.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a special stop in his tour of the snowed-in Westchester area Feb. 9, 2017.

Cuomo was inspired to help stranded motorist push his car back on the road in Hawthorne New York, according to an ABC report. The Governor’s office released the photos of the hands-on-governor.

Looks like the Gov. helped the stranded voter get an emergency response on the Sprain Brook Parkway.
