UPDATE: Key Bank robbery at gunpoint leads to three arrests, investigation ongoing

On Friday, February 9, at approx. 2:20PM the Clarkstown Police Department received a 911 call from Key Bank, Little Tor Rd, New City, by an employee reporting an armed robbery.  The caller told police he observed 2 males dressed all in black with their head and face covered, and one pulled out a hand gun during the robbery.  One male jumped the counter and started to grab an unknown amount of cash, while the other suspect held the employees at gunpoint.  Both suspects exited the bank on foot.  After a brief investigation by the Clarkstown Police Department, three suspects were arrested when officers stopped a 2006 Infiniti on New Hempstead Rd near the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The Infiniti contained cash proceeds that were found inside the vehicle.   The investigation is ongoing and as information becomes available it will be released accordingly.

According to police, the bank is still counting to determine how much money was stolen.

All three suspects were arrested, but their names and charges were not made public.

“It’s very rare to get an armed bank robbery in Clarkstown, and to get an arrest within 10 minutes of that robbery is also very rare,” Clarkstown Police Chief Raymond McCullagh said during a Friday conference. “I also can’t give enough credit to the bank tellers who kept calm reported it to the police. Often times, people might panic and wait and there’s a lag time that gives the suspects time to get away.”

SUN 10:09AM- Case has been handed over to the FBI, bank remains closed until Monday.
