From Ramapo: 2 separate pedestrian/car accidents, another driver found with cocaine

Yesterday, Ramapo Police investigated two separate car/pedestrian accidents in the Monsey area of the town, within 30 minutes of each other.

The first accident occurred on W. Maple Ave at the intersection of Monsey Blvd. A 9 year old female Monsey resident was struck while crossing W. Maple Ave., by a vehicle that was being operated by a 26 year old Monsey male. The pedestrian reportedly sustained very minor injuries. She was not transported to any medical facility for treatment.

The second accident occurred on Suzanne Dr. at the intersection of Leon Dr. A 7 year old female Monsey resident was struck while crossing Suzanne Dr., by a vehicle that was being operated by a 39 year old Spring Valley resident. She was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Hatzolah Ambulance with reported minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation reveals that both accidents are a result of pedestrian error.

RPD urges pedestrians and motorist to use caution on area roadways.

COCAINE FOUND IN CAR

Yesterday afternoon, an RPD officer conducted a traffic stop on North Airmont Road for a N.Y.S. Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. During the course of the traffic stop, the officer located a small bag containing approximately 700 mg of cocaine. The 21 year old operator was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree (D-Felony) and his vehicle was impounded. He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court, posted bail and had a return date set for March 1, 2018.
