ACLU ANNOUNCES TRANS RIGHTS TRUMP FIRING EMPLOYEE FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS

FROM THE DESK OF THE ACLU
Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes unlawfully discriminated against Aimee Stephens when it fired her after she said she was transgender.
The ruling affirms that transgender individuals are protected by federal sex discrimination laws, and that religious belief does not give employers the right to discriminate against them.
In too many workplaces around the country, coming out as trans is a fireable offense. But this ruling affirms that that is illegal, setting an important precedent confirming that transgender people are protected by the Civil Rights Act.
