FIGHT AT MEXICAN RESTAURANT LEADS TO MAN RAMMING HIS CAR INTO VICTIM’S CAR

BY CAROL MCILMURRAY

SOUTH ORANGETOWN- Zapata’s on Route 340, south of Oak Tree Road, was allegedly the scene of a quarrel between two men that resulted in John Chugranis, 54, ramming his New Jersey-plated car into his male friend’s car, over and over and over again.

Chugranis charged with using car to repeatedly and intentionally hit a parked car

A little known, well-secluded, Mexican staple on the border of Palisades, NY and Rockleigh, NJ hosted the alleged dispute involving the two middle-aged men.

The night resulted in criminal charges for one man named Chugranis.

Witnesses say the indoor verbal sparring spurred Chugranis exit the venue, start his engine, and start ramming his car into his ex-friend’s car, according to eye witness accounts.

According to Orangetown PD, Chugranis rammed his car into the victim’s car “repeatedly” and “intentionally” on Friday, March 2 at 10:35PM.

Chugranis initially left the scene of the crime after he was said to have caused noise disturbance and physical damage in the quiet backroad restaurant parking lot. Quickly cops detained and arrested Chugranis a short distance from the spicy Mexican restaurant.

Chugranis was not charged with driving while intoxicated but, he was charged with a third degree felony for the car ramming incident.  Police did not release the nature of the dispute or any information on victim. Chugranis made an unknown bail amount and is due to return to Orangetown Justice Court on March 14.

Zapata’s is a known for its outrageous guacamole and Mexican dishes, not it’s 911 calls.

A P.S. from the Rocklandpost-

Please don’t use your car as a battering ram this season, or any other for that matter.

Safety First.
