Update from Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee COVID-19 and Free Rabies shots for pet owners

Dear Friends,
With the Hudson Valley region in phase 4 of re-opening and rising COVID-19 cases across the country,  it is important to continue to keep up social distancing, washing hands (30 seconds) and mask wearing.  Our continued efforts help New York keep our COVID-19 cases low, and keeps us all safe.
As the end of the 2020 legislative session approaches, I am proud of the work we have done to better the People of New York.  From criminal justice legislation to COVID-19 centered legislation; we have made tremendous strides during this COVID-19 Pandemic. While I am disappointed that we could not accomplish more this session, it is my hope that as we move forward, we can continue to make New York a better place to live.
Best wishes,
Ellen
Re-opening Schools Guidance
With COVID-19 cases spiking across the country, many parents, students, and school districts are trying to find new ways to safely re-open our schools. Today, the Governor announced the formula for reopening schools in NY. This is just the beginning the discussion on how we can continue providing our children with a quality education, while keeping them and school staff safe. For more on the re-opening guidance, please visit, www.nysed.gov
COVID-19 Rental assistance
The Assembly Majority championed and passed the Emergency Rent Relief Act of 2020! This act will help New Yorkers who are facing unprecedented economic challenges due to COVID-19. New Yorkers should not worry about losing their homes during a global health crisis. learn more about the program or fill out an application, visit hcr.ny.gov/RRP.
Census 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Census Bureau has made some necessary changes to help keep residents safe while still working to ensure a complete census count. The national deadline for the count has been Extended to October 31st
Now more than ever, it is important for all of us to be counted in the 2020 census. Rockland is currently 64.1% compared to the 71% response rate in 2010! A complete count will ensure that more funding comes to New York State; funding that will go to our hospitals, schools, and other essential services.
